How It All Began: The Chris & Carol O'Neil Story
Chris O’Neil’s passion for motorcycles began in the 1960s when he and his father built a mini bike powered by a 3.5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine. That first ride sparked a lifelong love for two wheels. Over the years, Chris experimented with mini bikes, dirt bikes, and even a bit of trial riding before moving across Western Canada, eventually working in a mining camp in British Columbia. When he returned home in 1978, his interest in motorcycles was reignited.
The turning point came in 1979 when Chris discovered street riding. A two-week trip to the Maritimes with friends became one of the most memorable experiences of his life. Soon after, he traded in his Honda 500 C for a 1979 Harley-Davidson® Low Rider—and never looked back. Not long after, he met Carol, and together they spent years exploring Ontario and the mid-eastern United States, including the Smoky Mountains.
Married in 1982, Chris and Carol made a defining choice the following year: instead of buying a house, they invested in a brand-new 1983 Harley-Davidson® FLH Classic. Their dedication to the Harley-Davidson® lifestyle grew even stronger with the launch of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.®). After attending the first national rally in Nashville in 1984, they founded Canada’s first H.O.G.® chapter in Windsor in 1985.
In 1994, their dream became reality with the opening of Thunder Road Harley-Davidson®. Since then, they have built more than a dealership—they’ve built a community. Riding 10,000 to 15,000 kilometers each year and organizing group trips with friends and customers, Chris and Carol continue to live the lifestyle they love.
At Thunder Road Harley-Davidson®, the team is dedicated to helping riders experience the thrill of the open road. From new and pre-owned motorcycles to trikes, along with expert financing, service, and parts, they are committed to delivering an exceptional experience and building lasting relationships with every customer.
