Thunder Road Harley-Davidson - HOG Sense
So what IS HOG Sense?
In an effort to help you maximize the value of your motorcycle purchase,
Thunder Road Harley-Davidson is currently developing the HOG Sense
program.
The goal is simple:
to give you the tools to make the best motorcycle purchase possible!
Top 5 things to consider when buying a used Harley-Davidson®:
#1: How much am I really saving compared to buying a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle?
- Be aware of the current price of a new Harley-Davidson
- Financing rates and terms can be much better on a new vehicle, be aware of comparable payments
- Am I paying full retail value for accessories that are already on the motorcycle? With our strong Canadian dollar, new accessories are 40% less than they were two years ago!
- Why would you pay extra for options that came with the motorcycle?
- Where did the used Harley-Davidson come from?
- What is the true cost of not receiving the latest product improvements and benefits that new models offer?
- Be sure to do an accurate comparison (we can assist you, and it's free!)
#2: Warranties:
- Does the used vehicle have one?
- If proper procedures are not followed, the remaining factory warranty may be invalid
- What good does an in-house warranty do me when I'm traveling?
- What are the exclusions of the warranty? It's always best to look at what IS NOT covered as well as what IS covered.
- Some warranties do not cover electrical components…just like cars these days, our motorcycles have a lot of expensive electrical components (new Harley-Davidsons come with a 2 year parts and labour full warranty)
- Be aware of Co-pay or 50/50 warranties: Am I being charged a fair price if I'm paying half?
#3: Do I OR the person/company selling the vehicle really know its history?
- Was it well maintained (with service records)?
- Are there outstanding warranty issues/recalls performed (you should receive documented proof)?
- Were the proper lien checks/importation procedures followed (you should receive documented proof)?
- Why should I pay for service that should have been done?
#4: Watch out for the asterisks:
- Caution: There may be unknown additional costs not listed in ad copy for things that should be included in the listed price.
- Extra costs can be things like paint, accessories, service, freight, and documentation, which should have been included in the price.
#5: Be aware of long-term low payments:
- Were you aware that on a 10 year term the debt to equity ratio does not equalize for 6 years? If you like to trade and stay current this is the biggest factor in your ability to trade in down the road without having to come up with a large cash input to neutralize your trade.
- Long-term (7 year plus), the amount of accumulated interest is much higher than with a short-term
If a pre-owned motorcycle is for you, rest assured that Thunder Road Harley-Davidson goes to great lengths to make your purchase as safe, clear and pleasant as possible.
